Surry Hills

Vibrant, funky, alternative and edgy Newtown was the first designated ‘shopping precinct’ outside of the CBD in the early days of Sydney, and it remains an exciting place to visit.  Taste craft beer at a microbrewery, window shop in one-of-a-kind boutiques and galleries and spot graffiti by famous street artists on every corner.

One of Sydney’s original villages – second in age only to Glebe – Surry Hills was a farming community, then a den of vice and finally, a colourful inner city cultural hub known for having Sydney’s best coffee!  Walking distance from Central Stadium, Oxford Street and the famous Sydney Cricket Ground, Surry Hills is in the middle of Sydney and in the middle of the action.

Known affectionately as ‘Paddo’ to Sydneysiders, this inner city suburb sits comfortably between the city, the nightlife of Kings Cross and the beaches of the east.  Having retained much of its original Victorian architecture, it oozes charm and houses numerous interesting cafes and shops in its picture-postcard-perfect terraces and cottages.

One of Sydney’s most multicultural suburbs, Marrickville is home to large Greek, Portuguese, Vietnamese and Indigenous Australian communities, to name but a few – which makes for a delicious melting pot of cuisine!  Former industrial spaces throughout Marrickville have been converted to breweries, coffee roasters and gin distilleries so there’s no shortage of a decent beverage in this urban mecca.
