Keeping up the Standards

All Ultimately Sydney guides are IATG (Institute of Australian Tourist Guides) accredited. IATG is a tour guide association striving to keep up the standards within the tour guiding profession. The membership requires all guides to attend regular famils to update their knowledge and skills. One of the great benefits of being associated with IATG is the support you get from your fellow members. It is a challenge to always maintain your front after working 6 days straight.  For more information about IATG, go to the website at www.iatg.com.au

Did you Know...?

Darlinghurst means, Darling, named after The Governor, Darling. and Hurst, an old English name for a wooded hill…
As you sailed into Sydney Harbour heading towards Circular Quay, you could look up into the area of where Darlinghurst is today and spot plenty of windmills. In place of the windmills we now have colourful flags representing the flourishing gay movement in Sydney. With the largest gay population in the world, Sydney hosts a fabulous Mardi-gras in March. The parade is a colourful celebration of unity and acceptance. I’m not sure what The Governor would have to say about it today, but from all reports my guess is that he’d be happy not to deal with it…

Cafe of the Season

We have sooooo many cafés in Sydney. Our guests often comment on how they all survive? Well it’s tough. And as it is in everything competitive you have to be consistently good to stay on top. There is nothing worse than hanging out for the coffee that you’re use to getting only to have the barista away and the cook filling in, serving up a weak boiling hot brew….

The ‘Ultimate’ café this month is Bar Fredo at Pier 9 Walsh Bay. If Theo isn’t making the coffee for you I’ll eat my hat.

Restaurant of the Season

Nicks Bondi Beach

Be it lunch, dinner, coffee or just a cold beer/cocktail, Nicks at Bondi Beach is the best possible way to fully appreciate Australia’s most famous beach. Situated right in the middle of all the action, it’s a classic spot to people watch & hang out with the locals.
