Whether you consider it as a retirement gig, a change to your lifestyle or a complete career change & the above list applies to you, THE TOURISM INDUSTRY NEEDS YOU….!
How to get started:
IATG - Become an Affiliate Member of IATG (Institute of Australian Tour guides) > LINK
Certificate III or IV at TAFE NSW - Complete Certificate III or Certificate IV in Tour Guiding at TAFE NSW > LINK
Driver Guide:
Many tour companies today are looking for qualified Driver/Guides. This requires a couple of extra ticks.
Drivers Authority Card - Like the card you see displayed by taxi drivers. This card is a requirement of The Ministry of Transport & allows you to carry public passengers. > INFORMATION LINK
Light Rigid Drivers Licence - The LR licence is required when driving a vehicle that has more than 12 seats. To obtain this licence you need to visit the RTA & do a theory & practical test suitable for this vehicle type. Of course if you choose to get the MR or HR licence you will be able to drive big coaches giving you greater access to the job pool. In saying that, driver guiding in a big coach is becoming increasingly unpopular for safety & quality reasons, but your knowledge as a driver & a guide would be invaluable. > INFORMATION LINK
On The Job Training:
Ultimately Sydney is an active employer in the training of Tour Guides. All Tour Guides working for Ultimately Sydney are professional members of IATG or training to become one. INFORMATION LINK
